Teaching

Teaching Philosophy:
Since beginning my graduate studies, it has been my intent to become an instructor at the university level. I was fortunate to work with Donna Charlevoix and others at the University of Illinois to publish research on best practices in teaching in higher education concurrent with my atmospheric sciences work. Our research shows the value of project-based learning, long considered only feasible in small courses, in large enrollment courses, as it allows students to develop a relationship of ownership with their chosen topic. Additionally, such projects highlight the scholarship inherent in teaching, allowing the student to educate me as they learn more about a topic of their interest.
