Arctic Climate

My main area of research is arctic and midlatitude climate interactions from the atmospheric and oceanic perspectives. Current work focuses on how the impacts of extreme sea ice loss, i.e. persistent troughing over eastern North America, impact the circulation in the North Atlantic Ocean. Specifically, I am looking for impacts on the Meridional Overturning Circulation and Arctic Ocean Inflow.

Previous work (for my MS) uncovered relationships between extreme sea ice loss in the Arctic Ocean and the overall average autumn atmospheric conditions in the Northern Hemisphere. The resulting patterns are dominant on the North American side of the Arctic, where the sea ice anomaly in the Chukchi and Beaufort Seas triggers a strong thermal ridge over the west coast of North America.
