David is an M.S. student working with Professor Ryan Sriver in the Climate Dynamics and Variability Group.

David's current research focuses on uncertainty quantification in downscaled climate models. Global climate models accurately represent atmospheric and oceanic physics at the global scale, however their resolutions are usually too coarse to be used in regional impact assessments and they are known to exhibit biases when compared to observations. One such method to overcome these problems is downscaling, in which global output fields are interpolated to a higher resolution and then bias-corrected by assimilating an observational dataset. Several such downscaled products are publicly available and routinely used in local decision making. However, the underlying methodology is inherently uncertain. David's research aims to diagnose the strengths and weaknesses of the downscaling procedure, and ultimately provide an improved understanding of the reliability of downscaled climate information. In particular, he focuses on the representation of climate extremes and their impacts on coupled human-environment systems such as agriculture.
