This page is intended to orient you to the initial features of the DAS-UIUC wireless weather information.
This is simple information that can be dowloaded and viewed my most any web-enabled phone or
handheld device with wirless capabilities.
The goal of this site is to simply provide simple, yet timely weather in a manner that anyone can access at just about any time from just about anyplace. From the main page, located at http://www.atmos.uiuc.edu/wap, there are three options.
- Current Champaign-Urbana Observations (from Willard Airport)
- Current Champaign-Urbana Forecast (as provided by both WILL-AM 580 meteorologists and the National Weather Service).
- Current Lincoln, IL Radar Image (Only for web-enabled phones that can view images).
Current Observations
Current observational data comes from Willard Airport. It is updated hourly (sometimes more so during significant weather), and is the same information normally seen on the main UIUC Weather Page located at http://www.atmos.uiuc.edu/weather/index.php
A 'screenshot' of a phone with the observations can be seen here.

Current Lincoln Radar
|
The current East-Central Illinois radar image comes from data taken at the National Weather Service Office in Lincoln, IL. It is a simple product -- due to the limitations of images that can be used -- it shows only if it is raining or not, and fails to display intensity. It is updated approximately every 10 minutes, and is close to the East Central Illinois Radar products seen at http://www.atmos.uiuc.edu/weather/index.php
An animation of radar images taken the morning of 11/29/01 are shown here. PLEASE NOTE that animations ARE NOT AVAILABLE on phones. This is only shown as a demonstration. Only still images can be viewed over the phone.
