Community Outreach:
Spring 2008: Allie Jones, Sara Strey, Nicole Schiffer, and others helped write and proctor exams for the Regional and State Science Olympiad.
Spring 2008: Andy VanLoocke, Isaac Hankes, Tom Workoff, Jason Keeler, and others helped put together a badge program for Boy Scouts at the Holy Cross Merit Badge Seminar on Saturday, March 1, 2008.
Fall & Spring 2007: Regional and State Science Olympiad
- Dan Kurz mentored a student from a local middle school.
- Wendi Kaufeld and Amanda Wisdom assisted with the Science Olympiad test development and proctoring, alongside the local Central Illinois chapter of the AMS.
- Other involvement from the department: Lecturer Eric Snodgrass developed tests for this event and Professor Michael Schlesinger mentored students from a local school.

History of Atmospheric Sciences Student Organizations at the U of I:
SCAMS@UIUC: 2007 - Present
- January, 2009: SCAMS representatives attended the AMS Annual Conference in Phoenix, went to the officer's breakfast, submitted a poster, and included an abstract about our chapter in the meeting agenda.
- January, 2008: A group from SCAMS@UIUC traveled to the AMS Annual Conference (funded by the university as an RSO and by the department). We represented ourselves with a chapter poster and the officers attended Student Chapter town-hall meetings and an officer's breakfast.
- November, 2007: The SCAMS@UIUC Constitution is approved!
- October, 2007: The Student Chapter of the AMS at UIUC is approved by the AMS. The first SCAMS@UIUC meeting is held & officer elections take place.
- September 2007: The forming AMS Student Chapter is approved as a Registered Student Organization.
- Summer 2007: DASSO splits off from the forming AMS Student Chapter, which registers as an official student organization within the university, opening membership to all UIUC students. Officers develop a petition to initiate the student AMS chapter at UIUC.
